Andrew Perry, The Alpha
Journalist, Philosopher

Andrew is the founder of the Desert Dogs.
He is perceived as being the strong, silent type.
He can be a little spooky at times, and has been known to pop up
out of nowhere.
With the aid of Dustin Dragotto, the two of them
plan the trips out in advance.
Andrew writes all of the written content, takes photos, and is
the editor of all the videos. He has been coming out to the desert
and looking for archaeological sites since his father, Joe Perry,
started taking him at the tender age of 4. There is a legend,
started by his father, that Andrew was conceived in an ice cave near
Steamwell, a petroglyph site near Red Mountain.
Andrew has degrees in Philosophy and Journalism;
and will eventually begin work on his Master's Degree in Archaeology.
His real job is as a Public Information Officer for
a small but world-famous city in Los Angeles County.
He said his dream exiting college was to work for National
Geographic. But, he found
himself working for the government instead!
“Since I’m not really writing about my passion, which is science,
I decided to go out and make my own documentaries,” said Andrew.
Andrew's interests in the desert are finding
archaeological sites; either petroglyphs, pictographs, or finding items
like arrowheads, atl-atl points, pottery fragments, or similar
artifacts.
Andrew’s interest in these artifacts is to
photograph, document them, and report on their condition to the local
BLM archaeologist. He stresses
that it’s very bad for the archaeological integrity of an area for
people to take artifacts.
“It’s the thrill of the hunt, I guess.
It’s really cool to be out in a wilderness area and come across
something that another person created a few hundred years ago, or even
many thousand years ago!”
